·        The UN Human Rights Council has launched the most hostile anti-Israel “inquiry” in UN history, headed by the former UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, South African Navi Pillay, known for her direct involvement and support of the infamous Goldstone Report. Her two deputies have years of experience pillorying Israel.

·        The Human Rights Council’s resolution in May 2021 created an “ongoing independent, international commission of inquiry” with a sweeping mandate to investigate “all alleged violations of international humanitarian law and all alleged violations and abuses of international human rights law leading up to and since April 13, 2021, in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem, and all underlying root causes of recurrent tensions, instability, and protraction of conflict, including systematic discrimination and repression based on national, ethnic, racial or religious identity.”

·        The Human Rights Council resolution failed to refer to Hamas at all. It did not mention – let alone condemn – the launch of thousands of rockets by Hamas into Israel. Indeed, the Israeli civilian population was omitted from the resolution. The only civilians mentioned are the “Palestinian civilian population in the Occupied Palestinian Territory.” Nor did the resolution condemn the use by Palestinian terror groups of Palestinian civilians as human shields, a war crime.

·        The “inquiry” will have the mandate to ferret out “discrimination and repression based on national, ethnic, racial or religious identity” and to find discrimination and repression at the hands of Jews. This is full-frontal anti-Semitism, an inversion of the truth, such that the Jewish victims of racism and religious hatred become its perpetrators.

·        This attack on Israel is unprecedented in the history of the United Nations human rights system in terms of the “inquiry’s” funding, staffing, and permanence.

·        The Commission has invited “individuals, groups, and organizations to submit information and documentation relevant to its mandate. In particular, the Commission has asked to receive information concerning the “underlying root causes of recurrent tensions, instability, and protraction of conflict in and between the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem, and Israel, including systematic discrimination and repression based on national, ethnic, racial, or religious identity.”

·        Efforts must be made to encourage governments to condemn the Human Rights Council’s “inquiry.” More than 30 nations boycotted the biased and antisemitic Durban hate fest in September 2021. Their condemnation of the anti-Israel inquisition will underscore that the HRC undermines the promotion of international human rights and erodes the standing of the United Nations.

·        The verdict of this kangaroo court is a foregone conclusion. The urgent need arises, therefore, to challenge its veracity and legitimacy. Answering the “Call for Submissions” en masse – and ensuring alternative voices reach the court of public opinion – provides just such an opportunity for all those committed to combating modern anti-Semitism and defending the human rights of Israelis.

• The fact that the Squad picked on the Iron Dome to make its stand against Israel is significant. The Iron Dome is a system developed jointly by the United States and Israel that is purely defensive. It does not kill, injure, or threaten anyone. It only protects civilians against war crimes committed by terrorist groups that direct lethal rockets against innocent civilians.
• The fact that the Squad would try to deny Israel the right to defend its civilians speaks volumes about the lack of morality and decency among Squad members and their allies.
• It follows from this effort that the Squad will oppose any and all aid to Israel, including protecting its innocent civilians against Iran's nuclear threat. The obvious goal of Squad members is to deny Israel the right to defend itself against aggression. At least one of its members has denied that Israel has the right to exist.
• These bigoted actions directly violate the platform of the Democratic Party (as well as that of the Republican Party). The Democratic Party must decide whether it will become captive to its most extreme wing or whether it will marginalize these radicals who are not only anti-Israel but, in many ways, anti-American. They are intolerant of dissent and due process for those who disagree with them. They are anti-police, anti-military, and anti-free market economy.
• The time has come, indeed it is long past, for the Democratic leadership to stand strong against the anti-American, anti-Israel and anti-decency squalid Squad. The leadership can no longer stand idly by the bigotry of their members. If they persist in tolerating the intolerable, they will lose the support of the all-important mainstream voters.

The "Squad" is a small group of radical members of the U.S. House of Representatives who run for Congress under the banner of the Democratic Party but do not reflect its mainstream policies. They represent niche districts that are not typical of the Democratic base. They could not be elected in any statewide race, because they lack widespread support. They were nominated because of low turnout in primaries and were elected because their districts are overwhelmingly Democrat. They are fringe Democrats who should not have influence beyond their districts. But the House leadership of the Democratic Party has exaggerated their significance and given them more power than they deserve.

The fact that the Squad would try to deny Israel the right to defend its civilians speaks volumes about the lack of morality and decency among Squad members and their allies.

Next week, the United Nations is set to reinforce infamy. In the wings of the UN General Assembly meeting in New York, it is to hold a 20th anniversary summit of its so-called World Conference against Racism that took place in Durban, South Africa, four days before the terror attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.

 

The New York event is outrageous. For Durban was a terrifying circus of psychotic anti-Jewish hatred whose sole purpose was to demonize and delegitimize Israel under the Orwellian banner of “human rights.”

 

The latest summit—called Durban IV—is being boycotted by at least 16 countries, including Australia, Canada, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Hungary, Israel, the United Kingdom and the United States. But it’s sickening that it is still going ahead at all. For its purpose is to ratify the program decided in 2001, a meeting that has become a byword for hatred, intimidation and bigotry against the Jews.

 

Under the camouflage of attempting to combat racism, Durban’s initial documentation downgraded the Holocaust, referred ludicrously to “Zionist racist practices against Semitism” and accused Israel of “ethnic cleansing of the Arab population in historic Palestine.”

Although these noxious and demonic lies were beaten back, the conference’s final declaration nevertheless specifically listed only the Palestinians as “victims of racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and related intolerance.”

 

Singling out Israel as the alleged perpetrator of these horrors—a charge that peddled malign falsehoods while failing to identify any of the myriad states or groups that are indeed guilty of such behavior, including the Palestinians themselves—was itself an act of antisemitism.

 

Yet this governmental part of the meeting was preceded by something much worse. This was a conference of NGOs that dominated the proceedings by turning into a Jew-baiting lynch mob.

Jewish delegates were forced to run a gauntlet of antisemitic abuse and threats. There were shrieked claims that they were murderers, flyers declaring that “Hitler should have finished the job” and pamphlets with monstrous caricatures of hook-nosed Jews depicted as Nazis spearing Palestinian children and dripping blood from their fangs.  Warned that they were in physical danger, these delegates were forced to take shelter for their safety with the Durban Jewish community.

 

The final NGO declaration called Israel a “racist nation” and accused it of genocide. It was all so vile that even Mary Robinson, the UN human-rights commissioner who was no friend of Israel, recoiled at the language and unprecedentedly refused to formally hand the declaration to the government representatives when their part of the conference began.

This shocking hate-fest was certainly not the start of the global pogrom against Israel and the Jews.

 

By the time of Durban, the Palestinian Arabs’ Second Intifada had been raging for a year, blowing Israelis to kingdom come in buses and pizza parlors. And it was back in 1975 that the United Nations passed its infamous resolution declaring that Zionism was “a form of racism.”

 

Although that resolution was revoked in 1991, the venomous belief at its core—that the Jews alone were not entitled to self-determination in their own historic homeland, which had only ever been theirs alone and from which they had themselves been ethnically cleansed—spread through Western progressive circles.

 

At Durban, it violently erupted in the diseased body of “human rights” culture like a global cancer. Under the imprimatur of the United Nations, Durban embedded and normalized the demonizing of Israel and Jew-baiting—the apartheid libel, the insane claim that Israel was committing genocide and the grotesque equation of Israelis with the Nazis, which have now poisoned much of the Western “progressive” mind.

 Senior government source confirm 'serious concerns' over the UN-organised event's history which has targeted Israel and faced claims of anti-Semitism

 The UK government is finally set to announce that it will boycott the forthcoming Durban IV conference in New York over “serious concerns” about the event’s past issues over anti-Semitism and anti-Israel hatred.

 A senior government source confirmed to Jewish News that Britain will join the likes of United States, Canada and Australia in avoiding September’s 20th anniversary of the World Conference against Racism.

 The UNESCO organised event had previously been blighted with one-sided attacks on Israel including in 2001 draft resolution which likened Zionism to “racism.”

The Jewish Leadership Council, Board of Deputies and the Conservative Friends of Israel groups have been amongst those to write to Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab in recent months urging the UK to boycott the event.

 Jewish News understands that Prime Minister Boris Johnson was made aware of widespread objections to UK participation at Durban IV during a meeting with Jewish communal organisations last month.

 The PM is believed to have taken up the issue again following the May 20th meeting.

 The source also confirmed there was “zero support” for UK participation at the event amongst the current government cabinet.

 But there has been concern that the Foreign Office had up until now been “dragging its heels” over an official announcement on the UK boycott.

 A letter sent jointly by the JLC and the Board to the Foreign Secretary warned that despite being known as a conference against racism Durban “is remembered by the international Jewish community as a “hostile showcase for open anti-Semitism.”

 It noted that the infamous anti-Semitic forgery Protocols of the Elders of Zion had been distributed within the conference venue and during Durban 11 the Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad had claimed Israel was founded on the “pretext of Jewish suffering.”

 On April 20, Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab said the UK would “obviously” attend September’s UN General Assembly, when asked by Chipping Barnet MP Theresa Villers about the Durban IV event.

But he then added the government “will not support any partisan or political attacks on Israel” and he said he wished to “reassure her” that” the Government are absolutely crystal clear in our condemnation of and opposition to any and all forms of antisemitism.”

 The crossbench peer Baroness Deech also pressed Minister of State Lord Ahmad of Wimbledon on whether the UK planned to particiapate in September’s UN General Assembly’s commemoration of the 20th anniversary of the World Conference Against Racism.

 Lord Amad said that while the UK was committed to combatting racism “some of the antisemitic actions and speeches in and around the Third World Conference against Racism and its various follow-up events gave rise to serious concerns.”

 The peer added “we will consider UK attendance in the light of developments between now and the commemoration event, including the likelihood of any recurrence.”

 Last month a spokesperson for the Canadian government confirmed: “Canada is concerned that the Durban Process has and continues to be used to push for anti-Israel sentiment and as a forum for antisemitism. That is why we do not plan to attend or participate in events surrounding the 20th anniversary of the Durban Declaration and Program of Action.”

Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison also confirmed: “We will not associate Australia with one-sided and contentious language that singles out Israel or an event that champions such language.”

 The conference is scheduled for September 22 in New York.

 Jewish News has approached the FCO for comment on the UK’s decision to also boycott the event.
