Westerners Help Hamas Win the Propaganda War
https://www.spectator.co.uk/article/the-westerners-helping-hamas-win-the-propaganda-war/
After
two years of war, and despite Israel’s many successes on the battlefield, Hamas
can also claim a kind of victory – at least for now. The terror group has
survived and is once again exerting control in the areas of Gaza under its
authority. Public executions, whippings, stonings and kneecappings have
returned. In the first five days of the ceasefire, Hamas executed at least 100
Gazans.
Hamas’s
survival was achieved not only through its remaining fighters and its holding
of hostages, but also thanks to a chorus of western apologists. A coalition of
so-called progressives and professional activists has excused, rationalised and
defended the group’s actions across universities and in newspaper editorials.
The BBC, Sky, the Guardian, the FT and the New York Times have all parroted
Hamas talking points.
Tales
of impending famine in Gaza, for instance, were broadcast as fact, sourced from
UN bureaucrats and ‘aid agencies’ with long records of anti-Israel bias and, in
some cases, open sympathy for Hamas. This isn’t journalism: it’s agenda-driven
activism disguised as news. What the BBC and others failed to grasp is that,
for Hamas, the western media is the battlefields.
From
the outset, even before Israeli troops had entered Gaza, Hamas’s operatives and
sympathisers in the West were shouting about ‘genocide’ and ‘famine’. It was a
propaganda trap – and the western media walked right into it.
Consider,
for example, these headlines from the early weeks of the conflict in 2023:
11,15,30
October, 6 November: “Fuel in Gaza will run out in 48 hours”
The
pattern speaks for itself. It’s been the same story with Gaza being ‘on the
brink of famine’ for the past two years. This is how it works:
Step
one: The Hamas ‘health ministry’ makes up a casualty number which could be
debunked by the most cursory statistical analysis.
Step
two: Aid organisations repeat the number without independent confirmation.
Step
three: UN agencies in Gaza (some staffed by Hamas members) cite the aid
organisations.
Step
four: Media outlets quote the UN agencies.
Step
five: Hamas’s supporters in the West claim the numbers are ‘UN verified’.
UN
officials have also contributed to the fiction directly. In May, Tom Fletcher,
a humanitarian coordinator for the organisation, told BBC Radio 4: ‘There are
14,000 babies that will die in the next 48 hours unless we can reach them.’
Almost no babies died as a result of the war in the following days. But that
didn’t stop the BBC running the claim in bulletins and news outlets around the
world repeating it, citing the BBC as a reliable source.
The
Hamas narrative has been amplified, too, by disinformation campaigns driven by
Iranian, Russian and Chinese state-linked bots on social media, which have
exploited Gaza as a means of destabilising western societies. These regimes
understood how easily such narratives could tap into a pre-existing willingness
among many in the West to believe anti-Semitic libels.
Today,
falsehoods are disseminated by journalists, academics and UN officials –
cloaked in the language of human rights but echoing ancient prejudices.
Why
were Hamas’s inflated casualty figures reported as facts? Why were incorrect
claims of Israel bombing hospitals repeated without scrutiny – while confirmed
cases of Hamas rockets hitting Israeli hospitals in Ashkelon and Beersheba were
ignored? In part, this was down to journalistic complacency. The facts were
accessible.
Independent
researchers discovered that some of the most widely shared images of
‘starvation in Gaza’ were from Yemen. One prominent photo showing a skeletal
child was highlighted by the media as evidence of famine. In reality, the child
wasn’t malnourished due to famine. He had cerebral palsy, hypoxemia and other
genetic conditions. That didn’t prevent the Guardian, Times and New York Times
running it on their front pages, inflaming the emotions of millions of readers.
Despite its resources, the much-touted BBC Verify unit missed these falsehoods.
The
good news? Large swaths of the British public aren’t buying it. Scroll through
the reader comments under articles about Israel, and you’ll find thousands of
ordinary people who haven’t lost their critical faculties. They know casualty
figures from terrorist regimes aren’t a sacred truth. They can spot propaganda
when they see it.
Unlike
some intellectuals, they don’t lose all logic the moment the word ‘Israel’ is
uttered. As George Orwell once quipped: ‘You must be an intellectual. Only an
intellectual could believe something quite so stupid.’ Today, he might have
aimed that line at Guardian readers or BBC news staff.
In
this war, it is not Israel or even Hamas that has lost its purpose, but the
media.

The Gaza War and the West's Reckoning
Full article at https://x.com/Mr_Andrew_Fox/status/1947566906791100527
The Gaza war, while devastating in its own right, has
revealed something more profound and more disturbing than the immediate tragedy
in the Middle East. It has laid bare the West’s internal decline: the dominance
of post-modern thinking, a failure of integration, a tolerance for imported
hatreds, and a troubling vulnerability to foreign-funded disinformation. What
started as a distant conflict has rapidly escalated into chaos on our streets,
campuses, and institutions. Antisemitism surges. Extremism thrives.
Underpinning it all is the exploitation of our freedoms by those seeking to
destroy us from within.
The erosion of moral clarity within Western institutions, as
revealed by the Gaza war, is deeply rooted in the intellectual decline caused
by postmodern thinking..
The Gaza death toll is a perfect example. Rather than simply
analysing the data we have, there is a whole academic sector dedicated to
“proving” that the death toll is higher, simply because their feelings tell
them it should be. Thus, we see a slew of methodologically unsound academic
reports elevating the death toll, based on shaky research that seeks to
reverse-engineer false conclusions, with outcomes predetermined long before the
research began. The media report on these studies, and so false data floods the
ecosystem of discussion.
This is symptomatic of the intellectual collapse in Western
academia. Campuses steeped in post-modern ideology no longer teach students how
to think, but what to feel. Critical thinking, once the very foundation of
liberal education, has been replaced by critical theory, which sees every issue
through the lens of race, power, and oppression. Truth is not determined by
logic or evidence but by who can claim the greatest victimhood. In this
paradigm, Jews are recast as oppressors simply because Israel exists and
succeeds, despite their historic suffering and minority status.
This mindset has given rise to campus mobs who chant
“intifada” and “globalise the resistance” without understanding (or perhaps not
caring) what those slogans involve. It fuels the journalist who insists that
“context” justifies atrocities, and the NGO that parrots Hamas death tolls
without a shred of source criticism.
It has also corrupted our moral vocabulary. Terms like
“genocide,” “colonialism,” and “apartheid” are now used not as serious legal or
historical concepts, but as tools to attack the West and defend its enemies.
This is why facts no longer matter. Hamas can release a
propaganda video, and it spreads faster than any IDF rebuttal. The rape and
massacre of Israeli civilians is downplayed, while the mere accusation of
disproportionate response becomes the dominant story. In a post-modern culture,
emotion often trumps evidence. Narrative is everything, and if the narrative
suits the ideological agenda, then it becomes sacred and untouchable.
The ultimate outcome is a culture that is disarmed in the
face of evil. When morality is solely defined by power, victims who possess any
form of power (Jews, Israel, the West) are recast as villains.
This is the crux of the matter: we are not seeing just an
attack on Israel. This is an attack on the West.
Nowhere was this moral confusion more apparent than on
American university campuses. Universities that once prided themselves on being
centres of free thought have instead become breeding grounds for hatred. At
Harvard, Columbia, and Cornell, students celebrated Hamas's atrocities, blaming
Israel for the 7 October massacre. Administrators, terrified of offending
activists, responded with cowardice. The line between protest and sympathising
with terror blurred, and Jewish students were left abandoned.
This did not happen by chance; for decades, Soviet
information operations pushed the post-modern line to left-leaning fellow travelers
in academia. Russian propaganda continues to encourage, amplify and assault the
fault lines in our societies. The corruption was also bought and paid for, in
recent years. Qatari billions have flooded Western academia, creating
ideological allies on campuses.
The result is academic departments that operate more like
propaganda tools: a ruined intellectual critical paradigm,
financially-compromised academics shaping civil servant and media narratives,
and student groups like Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) that can
organise “Day of Rage” rallies within hours of Hamas atrocities. Our
universities, and the state and media institutions they inform, have
legitimised hatred under the banner of social justice.
The West’s openness has become its Achilles heel.
Adversaries understand this. Iran, Hamas, Qatar, Russia and their fellow travelers
exploit our freedoms with surgical precision. They flood our social media with
lies, fund our institutions, radicalise our youth and our immigrant
populations, divide the remainder, and then sit back as our societies unravel
from within.
This is not just about Israel. It never is. As history
shows, when antisemitism surges, democracy itself is under threat. The Jews are
the canary in the coal mine. If we cannot protect them, we have failed to
protect the moral integrity of our society.
I fear we are lost. Our governments cannot even recognise
the problem, let alone conceive a solution. We are ignoring the canary’s
warning, and the entire mine is collapsing around us.

Israel’s Two-Faced Allies

America and Britain claim to be allies of Israel.
There is no gainsaying the deep links between them of military assistance,
intelligence and trade. Israel is the invaluable strategic asset for America
and Britain in the Middle East, a crucial bulwark in the defence of the
west. And yet both America and Britain
undermine Israel’s security and defence against existential attack by
sanitising, promoting and funding Palestinian Arabs, whose active cause remains
the destruction of the Jewish state.
A recent event illustrated this particularly sharply
when British diplomatic officials in Jerusalem effectively endorsed the
Palestinian Authority’s agenda to eradicate Israel. Palestinian Media Watch has revealed that
at last Friday’s annual “Palestine Marathon” held by the PA, seven British
officials taking part as “#TeamUK” wore marathon T-shirts displaying the
PA’s map that erases Israel and represents the whole country as Palestine. The Jewish Chronicle reports that the team consisted of
the UK’s Deputy Consul General Alison McEwen and Foreign Office colleagues. A
picture of the team was tweeted from the official account of the British
Consulate in Jerusalem, hailing “the incredible Palestine Marathon to support
#FREEDOMOFMOVEMENT for all Palestinians”.
Palestinian Media Watch observes that this hashtag
was conceived to support the PA’s demand that Israel remove the security
measures it has adopted to prevent the flow of Palestinian terrorists from
PA-controlled areas into Israel’s cities.
According to The
Jewish Chronicle, the marathon was organised by a group called
“Right to Movement,” which campaigns against “the many obstacles that we live
daily under fascist racist occupation”.
The race was held under the auspices of the Palestine Liberation
Organisation Supreme Council for Youth and Sports headed by Jibril Rajoub, a
man who has been convicted of numerous terrorist offences and who persistently
glorifies Palestinian terrorist murderers.
So these British diplomats took part in an event
supervised by a terrorist sympathiser; openly supported the Palestinian Arabs’
lie that Israel is subjecting them to “fascist racist occupation”; openly
opposed Israel’s measures to protect its citizens against attack; and openly
endorsed the eradication of Israel altogether.
The current British government under Prime Minister
Rishi Sunak contains an unprecedented number of Israel supporters. So how can
its diplomats have displayed such egregious hostility to Israel’s security and
even its very existence? The consular
bodies run by both Britain and America in Jerusalem, which provide assistance
to the Palestinian Arabs in the east of the city, the disputed territories and
in the Gaza Strip, have long been viewed by the Israeli government as working
against Israeli interests.
What is the reason for this two-faced attitude?
There’s a charitable explanation and a less charitable one.
The charitable one is that neither the American nor
British government accepts that the PA’s objective is the extermination of
Israel. This is because these governments are committed to the “two-state
solution”. It requires them to define the problem to which this is the solution
as the division of land between two sets of people with legitimate claims to
that land. This is clearly untrue. The
PA’s own repeated statements, its maps and insignia depicting a state of
Palestine that erases Israel, its incitement to seize Israeli cities such as
Haifa and Jaffa and its support for terrorism all show that its aim is Israel’s
destruction.
Yet the American and British governments can’t allow
themselves to acknowledge this. Partly, this is due to pressure from the Arab
world. Mostly, though, it’s due to the implacable liberal belief in conflict
resolution and peace processes.
Since the Americans and British can’t allow anything
to disrupt such a peace process, they ignore any evidence of a non-negotiable
and unconscionable agenda. So Israel,
which has always been willing to negotiate and has indeed offered a Palestinian
state on numerous occasions, gets blamed for endangering the peace process when
it insists on defending itself against never-ending Palestinian Arab
terrorism. That liberal tunnel vision
helps explain why the Biden administration funds the PA even though it
continues its “pay-for-slay” stipends to terrorists’ families.
The less charitable explanation, meanwhile, is that some of those promoting the Palestinian Arab cause are motivated by malign hatred of Israel and the Jewish people.

Jews Worldwide under Murderous Attack
Video Of The Week – Media’s Silence - https://tinyurl.com/9f4f54ed
For the full Article by Melanie Phillips go to: https://tinyurl.com/8urf945t
The Jewish people are under
murderous attack both in Israel and the diaspora. The violence is not
confined to the Middle East. There has been a huge upsurge in attacks on
diaspora Jews in Britain, Europe and America. On the streets of European
cities, demonstrators have been screaming for the destruction of Israel and
chanting that the “army of Mohammed” has returned to slaughter the Jews.
Britain’s Jewish defence
organisation reports at least a five-fold increase in antisemitic incidents
over the course of the Gaza war. The most dramatic example was a four-hour
motorcade around Jewish areas of North London screaming abuse: “F***
the Jews, f*** their daughters, f*** their mothers, rape their daughters and
free Palestine.”
What’s happening now is that the Palestinian war against Israel has been reframed as a war against the Jews. Most of this is being perpetrated by Muslims. But it is being reinforced by extreme hostility to Israel from western “progressives.” It’s not just the twisted reporting, distortions and blood libels that have been transmitted by the BBC, Sky UK, the Guardian, The New York Times and others. Worse still is the intensity of the perverse and unjustified passions with which Israel is demonised. It’s the spitting outrage that not enough Israelis are dying to justify military action.
It’s the virulent satisfaction
with which every military action that Israel takes is seized upon as
proof of its moral depravity. For a Jew, it’s impossible not to hear the unmistakable
echoes of previous horrors — the medieval blood libel against the Jews and the
Holocaust. While the Nazi comparison is repeatedly misused, on this occasion it
is all too justified. Indeed, it is not too fanciful to view what we are
witnessing as the last, overlooked but still active front of the Second World
War.
Left-wing thinkers urged a total
repudiation of the nation-state. This led to the dogma that Israel was a
colonial and illegitimate enterprise, Zionism was racism. In the Muslim world,
Jew-hatred is rooted in Islamic theology. The most notorious Arab Nazi was the
Mufti of Jerusalem, Haj Amin al Husseini. And al Husseini’s most devoted
acolyte is the current leader of the Palestinian Authority, Mahmoud Abbas.
Today, the Palestinians of both Hamas and Abbas’s Fatah constantly churn out
Nazi-style, murderous incitement. The Iranian regime, which funds and arms
Hamas, regularly announces its genocidal intentions towards the Jews.
So today’s war against western
civilisation and the Jews amounts to infernal unfinished business. But unlike
the Second World War, when those in the free world on the side of the fascists
were regarded as traitors, such people today march with those pledged to
Islamic holy war against the Jews. The heirs to the Nazis are still intent upon
the same terrible aims. The difference now is that those fighting for
civilisation are being undermined by an enormous fifth column.
